Job Summary

This job works with the Director of Respiratory Care and Clinical Support Services to ensure proper, safe, timely, and cost effective delivery of respiratory care procedures and techniques. Primary responsibilities include development and/or monitoring of monthly work schedule productivity. Collaborate with respiratory care staff, nursing staff, and physicians, assisting with the development and evaluation of policies and procedures, and evaluation of permanent and disposable equipment, and assistance with general department management. Completing timely and accurate annual evaluations for RT staff. Acts in a leadership capacity to promote and advocate professional conduct, advancement of evidenced based Clinical Practices and is able to participate in research and publishing. Accountabilities

* Manage department human resources by: determining qualifications, competence and performance expectations; implementing and monitoring staffing plans; providing orientation, in-service training and continuing education of all persons in the department and applying policies/procedures pertaining to human resources management.

* Provides visible leadership for front line supervisors; directly supporting activities relating to education, equipment, supplies, evaluations, shift labor allocation, professionalism and clinical performance.

* Assists the Director in development, implementation and evaluation of existing and new services, programs, policies and procedures, clinical and professional  performance standards.

* Continuously assess and improve the department's performance by designing operational processes, monitoring performance through data,  implementing sustainable performance improvement, budget management, maintaining productivity targets.

* Aligns and communicates the vision of the GHS; mission, goals, roles and responsibilities as applicable to RCS. Uses

   communication modes and styles appropriate to the desired outcome. Clearly states what is expected or wanted

   from others ,undertakes difficult conversations and disagreements effectively and with confidence.  Written        

   communications are clear, concise and appropriately crafted for formal or informal channels.  10%

* Management of day-to-day operations of department/ service area; troubleshoots operational issues and develops action plans to resolve issues. Collaborates with Director on significant operational issues/barriers

* Prepares for change initiatives and communicates progress with clarity, honesty and directness . Maintains a positive environment during the course of change remaining alert to morale issues.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

Job has direct and/or indirect supervision of employees that may include final budget authority, hire/termination/     disciplinary authority, performance appraisal responsibility. Job will be considered a member of the management staff with direct reports. Minimum Education

Bachelor's Degree - Healthcare, Respiratory Care, Education or related

Minimum Experience

5 years - Combination of clinical, management and front line supervision/lead role

Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses
  • BLS, RRT, AARC Membership Require. NBRC credentials must be maintained.
  • Speciality Certification may be required based on individual department/Affiliate
  • Must be licensed in as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in South Carolina

Certification required may include any or all of the following depending on the unit: ACLS, NRP,FCCS, CAM Class or PALS

In lieu of the Above Minimum Requirements

Associate degree with 10+ years experience, including 5 years RRT supervisory experience

Other Required Experience Demonstrated knowledge of all applicable legal, regulatory, agencies (Joint Commission, DHEC, OSHA,CAP) and requirements including Laws and Regulations pertaining to the practice of Respiratory Care and Pulmonary Function as outlined by the South Carolina Board of Licensure - Required
  • Critical thinking, problem solving,planning ,organizational skills, teamwork and adaptability along with advanced knowledge of clinical and healthcare business practices required
  • Bachelors Degree in Respiratory Care or other health care related field preferred

Research experience - Preferred


Master Degree  in Respiratory Care or related field - Preferred
