Safety Compliance Specialist
Location: Reading, PA.
Position Summary:
The Safety Compliance Specialist is responsible for supporting the company's safety efforts, and ensuring compliance with various FMCSA, DOT and OSHA regulations and programs including random drug and alcohol testing programs, FMCSA Clearinghouse compliance, Driver Med Cards, SmartDrive corrective action compliance, and other regulatory requirements that effect the business. Additionally, this position is responsible for providing analytic support for the above compliance processes.
Major Responsibilities:
• Coordinate the Random Drug and Alcohol testing program.
• Administer the FMCSA Clearinghouse Compliance program.
• Review SmartDrive violations and audit for corrective action issuance for the Focus Items.
• Address other Drug and Alcohol program violations or discrepancies.
• Develop and deliver training to the field operations team on compliance items.
• Other projects and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree required.
• Certified Safety Professional, Certified Transportation Professional or other applicable certification preferred.
• 1-3 years of experience working in the safety or motor carrier field with knowledge of DOT and OSHA regulations as they relate to the transportation industry required.
• Must possess basic knowledge and understanding of transportation industry and shop safety.
• Must have a complete grasp of OSHA and DOT laws/regulations and the company's business operations and be able to use this knowledge to develop solutions aligning with major responsibilities above.
• Ability to understand and translate regulations into understandable actions for the field required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products (Microsoft Access, Excel, Word).
• Ability to work within teams and collaborate cross-functionally.
• Must have strong interpersonal skills, including influencing and relationship building.
• Ability to deal with a diverse and multinational group of internal and external customers, vendors, and government agencies.
• Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.
• Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, work at the specific location required, complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening are required.
