Summary:

Provide technical and administrative assistance to the Pharmacist in the day-to-day activities of a designated pharmacy operation. Assist Pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the dispensing of prescription pharmaceuticals, and fills routine orders for non-prescription pharmaceuticals. 


Responsibilities:

* Fill routine orders for prepackaged non-prescription pharmaceuticals and medical supplies.
* Assist patients who are dropping off or picking up prescription orders; verify that patients receive correct prescriptions at point of sale.
* Record temperature for refrigerator and freezer medications.
* Assist with billing for third party and private billing for pharmacy.
* Provide direct customer assistance to patients dropping off and picking up prescriptions, and perform routine inventory and data management activities in support of pharmacy operations.
* Assist the pharmacist as instructed in the filling and dispensing of prescriptions; count, packages, and label unit doses for inspection.
* Enter patient prescription orders into a computerized database; create and maintain computerized patient health and insurance information, in accordance with established protocol and procedure.
* Communicate as necessary with third party payers to obtain payment for prescription claims.
* Communicate with prescribing practitioners as necessary to obtain refill authorizations for patients.
* Receive and process pharmaceutical deliveries from vendors as appropriate, and places on shelves in accordance with established protocol and procedure.
* Ensure inventory of drugs is current and up to date. Conduct inspections and remove out of date medications.
* Assist in training new staff on routine procedures.
* Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required

Skills:

Essential:
* Employees are required to have proof of immunity or dates of two (2) doses of MMR and proof of immunity or dates of two (2) doses of Varicella prior to starting in any position within the Oneida Comprehensive Health Division. Any refusal of vaccination(s) or failure to provide proof of immunity may disqualify the applicant

* Knowledge of local, State, and Federal laws and regulations pertaining to pharmacy
* Ability to sort, check, count and verify numbers
* Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures
* Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
* Must comply with Caregiver Law and Grant conditions criminal history checks as a condition of employment to include fingerprinting
* Knowledge of procedures and standards for the labeling and dispensing of prescription drugs
* Knowledge of medication brand and generic names
* Knowledge of medical insurance and third-party payment systems and procedures
* Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications
* Knowledge of Unit-Dose packaging

Education Requirement - Or A Closely Related Field:

Education with Equivalent Qualifications:
Essential:
* General Ed, High School Equivalency Diploma, HS Diploma
* Applicants age 50 and older are exempt from this requirement

Credentials:
Essential:
* Tribal Vehicle Driver
* National Certification as a Pharmacy Technician
Nonessential:
* Driver Safety Training
* CPR and Red Cross First Aide,  complete training within thirty (30) days of employment and annually thereafter.
* Child Abuse Reporting Policy (CARP) (Hrd), within ninety (90) days of employment.
* Health Insurance Portability (HIPAA) Accountability, obtain within three (3) months of employment. Must maintain during employment.

Must be willing and able to obtain additional related education and training.

Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and adhere to the Nation Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy.

A Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and/or a 2 step TB Skin Test is required within thirty (30) days of employment.

Must provide a copy of diploma/degree, license, or certification upon employment.
