Position/PCN:  Central Kitchen Aide

Position FTE: 1

Pay Grade:  3

Starting Wage:  $17.31

Days Per Year: 194

Shift hours: 7 Am- 3:30 PM


Specific job responsibilities relevant for this position include:     Title:  Central Kitchen Aide
  Band Grade Subgrade A 1 2 Department: Accountable to: FLSA Status: Nutrition Services Nutrition Services Supervisor Non-Exempt   Class Summary:  Under direct supervision assembles and packages a variety of nutritional food items for service in various schools throughout the district.  Assists cooks, bakers and other nutrition services staff with various duties throughout the Central Kitchen.
Distinguishing Characteristics: 
  Duty No. Essential Duties Frequency Band/ Grade 1 Assists cooks and bakers in preparing specialty food items and loading such products onto carts.  Includes but is not limited to washing and cutting vegetables and opening cans.  Is responsible for counting food items and sending the proper number of specialty items to each school.  Activities include assisting in assembling student and staff member salads, sandwiches, and other specialty items.  Helps prepare items for catered events by the Nutrition Program. Daily A1 2 Assists in the kitchen where needed and makes acceptable substitutions, with supervisor approval, when original food items are not available or is in insufficient quantity. Daily A1 3 Participates in clean-up activities (including equipment, utensils, and dishes) ensuring a clean, safe environment as required by D.E.D. regulations. 4 Provides work direction for substitutes and student helpers and ensures performance of assigned tasks.  Substitutes for and/or arranges substitutes for absent workers as necessary and according to established guidelines. Daily A1 5 Provides requisition to the supervisor for food supplies, canned goods, cleaning supplies, and paper products from Central Kitchen, may be required to enter requisition information according to established guidelines under direct supervision. Daily A1 6 Performs setup procedures to prepare working area for assemblins functions.  Sets up order in which food items are assembled and retrieves the proper utensils for dishing up predetermined serving sizes. As Needed A1 7 Adjusts equipment to wrap different sized products to make packaging more efficient.  Ensures assembled items are free from contamination and informs the Supervisor if food quality is poor.  Assembles, wraps and loads the appropriate number of meals onto racks and/or cold storage for transport to the various schools within the District. Daily A1 8 Under supervision develops a weekly schedule according to established guidelines to ensure a timely and efficient plan of work. Daily A1 9 May be required to perform additional related Nutrition Services tasks as delegated by the Nutrition Services Supervisor or an assigned designee. Daily A1    
Knowledge:  Basic food service safety and sanitation, National School Lunch Program regulations preferred, basic food preparation.
 
Skills (position requirements at entry):
 
Training and Experience (position requirements at entry):  High School Diploma or GED.  Previous education, training, work or life experiences which provide reasonable evidence of the successful performance of the various tasks listed.  Such experience may be evidenced through three (3) to six (6) months of cashiering and/or meal preparatory experience.
 
Licensing Requirements (position requirements at entry):  A valid Alaskan Driver's License.
 
Physical Requirements:  Medium Work:  Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 20-40 pounds of force frequently, and or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.  Constant standing, walking, bending, and lifting through the shift.
