Description

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine (NSU-CDM) is looking for a highly motivated and academically inspired individual for a full-time, clinical-track faculty position.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic team of professionals dedicated to excellence in education, patient care, research, and community service. The Department is transitioning from a four-year (3 residents/year) program to a six-year MD integrated program (3 residents/year). The program has active practices in oncology, trauma, implantology, orthognathic surgery, and sleep surgery.

Fellowship training in maxillofacial oncologic reconstructive surgery, including microvascular surgery, is desirable. Additionally, the candidate will be driven to teach the next generation of surgeons in full-scope oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching:
    • Deliver high-quality didactic and clinical instruction to dental and medical students and residents in OMFS
    • Implement effective teaching materials and methods.
    • Mentor students and residents in academic and professional development.
    • Participate in curriculum development and assessment.
  • Clinical Practice:
    • Provide comprehensive oral and maxillofacial surgical care, including dentoalveolar surgery, orthognathic surgery, TMJ surgery, reconstructive surgery, and trauma management.
    • Supervise and instruct residents and fellows in clinical settings.
    • Maintain clinical practice within the university's affiliated healthcare facilities.
  • Research:
    • Engage in research projects of interest to OMFS.
    • Secure intramural and/or extramural funding through grants and collaborative research initiatives.
    • Publish in peer-reviewed journals.
    • Present at national and international conferences.
  • Service:
    • Participate in department, college, and university committees and initiatives.
    • Contribute to professional organizations and the broader academic and clinical community.
    • Engage in community outreach and public service programs related to oral and maxillofacial health.

Qualifications:

  • DDS/DMD degree from an accredited institution, or foreign equivalent dentistry degree.
  • Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from CODA accredited institution.
  • Completion of a CODA-accredited residency program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
  • Board certification or eligibility by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
  • Professional doctoral-level teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Other advanced degrees (e.g., PhD, MD)
  • Maxillofacial oncologic reconstructive surgery fellowship
  • A record of accomplishment in scholarly work
  • Eligible for teaching dental licensure, and/or medical licensure in Florida
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and clinical practice.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in academic and clinical environments.
