Job Description

 

Primary Purpose:
Supporting and managing many aspects of a corporate occupational health & safety program which includes industrial hygiene evaluations of employee exposure concerns, life safety audits (AED & Fire Inspection), and administrating written health & safety programs.

 

Principal Duties:

  • Assist in managing the NS Health and Safety (H&S) Programs including Respiratory Protection, Hazard Communication, Hearing Conservation, Confined Space Entry, Respirable Crystalline Silica, and Asbestos.  
  • Provide system-wide support to the Sr. Manager of OHS including responding to employee exposure concerns, helping develop technical content for H&S Program training material, and supporting Life Safety program needs.   
  • Performs exposure monitoring and workplace evaluations per regulatory requirements or in response to employee complaints or concerns, with all associated reporting and recordkeeping.  Advises on appropriate remedial actions.
  • Manages consultants/contractors in connection with Industrial Hygiene work items.
  • Assists in management of community and worker protection programs during railroad emergency response operations.
  • Provides Safety and Industrial Hygiene support for Environmental Protection efforts including the Hazardous Materials and Environmental Operations groups.
  • Participates in system safety evaluations and program development.
  • Is on call and available to travel 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond to railroad operational, occupational, and environmental emergencies.
  • Incumbent must have and maintain an exemplary driving record.

 

Job Related Experience:
   Minimum Level:  2+ years
   Preferred Level:  4+ years

Education:
   Preferred Level:  Bachelor of Science (BS)
   Preferred Majors:  Natural sciences under STEM (Science, technology, engineering, mathematics)

Licenses / Certifications:
Required:  None

Preferred: Working towards Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist

Technical Skills:
 - MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
 - Presentation development and delivery
 - Database management and report generation
 - SAP
