New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) is currently seeking a Full-Time 32-40 hour Oncology Surgical Nurse Navigator. The Surgical Nurse Navigator will be responsible for providing care to our benign, high-risk and malignant surgical population throughout their entire patient experience, from pre-surgery through post-surgery. The successful candidate will help navigate the patient through diagnostic workup to surgical interventions and/or other clinical care needed to ensure the best outcomes for the patient such as: imaging, medical oncology, physical therapy, genetic testing, radiation oncology and other supportive services. The ideal candidate must have excellent communication and organizational skills and a strong commitment to providing high quality patient care. The successful candidate must have two years of experience in surgical specialty or related field such as breast oncology.

NECS is a private medical practice composed of 18 oncologists and hematologists serving the region from six separate locations in Maine and New Hampshire. Required Experience:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

+ This individual will be responsible for providing care to our surgical patients throughout their entire patient experience, from pre-surgery through post-surgery.

+ This individual will work closely with NECS intake department and triage benign, high-risk, and breast cancer referrals to the appropriate department.

+ Works closely with the oncology team to develop and implement individualized care plans.

+ Works well with other NECS navigators and other departments such as Radiology, Pathology and supportive services.

+ Participates in case conferences, tumor boards, and patient care meetings.

+ Educates patients on self-care strategies, nutrition, and lifestyle changes that can aid recovery and overall well-being.

+ Communicates effectively with the patient and other healthcare team members.

+ Maintains organizational skills and keeps accurate patient records.

+ Demonstrates compassion and empathy for patients.

+ Can accurately reinforce the education patients receive about their options and be available to answer questions.

+ Monitors patient progress and addresses any issues that arise.

+ Stays up-to-date on changes in regulations and healthcare treatments.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

+ Knowledge in breast and/or surgical care with motivation to acquire additional knowledge in these areas.

+ Proven organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.

+ Proactive initiative to identify issues and recommend solutions. Ability to handle multiple priorities.

+ High ethical standards. Intense desire to succeed. Ability to make tough decisions. Change agent.

+ Knowledge of the nature of diseases, their treatments both curative and palliative, and the side effects of related therapies.

+ Knowledge of area agencies and willingness to collaborate with these agencies, initiating referrals when applicable.

Education and/or Experience

+ Bachelor's degree in nursing required. Licensed Nurse within State of Maine required.

+ Two years plus nursing professional experience required.

+ Surgical/Breast Oncology experience preferred.

+ OCN required within 1 (one) year of hire or when eligible based on ONCC criteria
