Financial Analyst, Payroll performs analysis of all payroll bank, liability, and tax accounts in accordance with internal policies and procedures and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Responsible for the Salary and Benefit budget and forecast processes from Workday to Adaptive. Prepare internal reports for distribution to budget managers for salary and benefit accounts. Provides other analyses as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Responsible for preparing payroll bank, liability, and tax accounts; analyzes account variances and provides explanations and proposed solutions.
- Responsible for the development of salary budgets and forecasts and ensuring all timelines are met and required reporting is delivered on time. Uses trend analysis, estimates, and judgement to ensure proposals and projections are complete, accurate, and in compliance with internal policies and procedures.
- Utilizes independent thinking skills and learned best practices to analyze salary and benefit accounts and compare actual results versus budget/forecast projections. Provide feedback on areas of concern and/or opportunity.
- Develop effective budgeting reports for use by company leaders for analyzing differences in budget to actual/forecasted numbers.
- Responsible for providing required annual data for the 401K True-Up, Corporate Tax Reporting, Workers Compensation Audits, Census Requests, and the External Audit.
- Responsible for maintaining the Payroll Period Schedules by Pay Group to ensure proper salary expense accruals are calculated in Workday.
- Responsible for timely and accurate posting of all payroll-related journal entries for month end close in accordance with the internal month end close schedule.
- Handles special projects, ad hoc reporting and analysis as requested. Identifies and drives improvement opportunities and works closely with the Sr. Director, Pay Services to ensure improvement opportunities are implemented to provide timely and accurate information.
- Independently create and maintain standard and ad-hoc reports and prepare financial analysis using Company systems and tools.
- Assist with the development of training materials, including manuals, on-line tutorials, and end-user training classes for Company reporting tools, Workday and Adaptive Planning.
- Strong working knowledge of PC-based software applications, including Microsoft Office with proficiency in Excel. Experience working in business reporting systems, to include utilizing systems knowledge to create, modify, and disseminate reports to drive business analytics and dashboards. Workday and Adaptive Planning experience a plus.
- Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
- Ability to be flexible and perform in a fast-paced environment.
- Special projects, as necessary.
- Less than 5% travel is expected.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Finance/Accounting or related field and 1-3 years finance or related experience in a mid-size to large organization.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, and interpret general business periodicals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to department heads, management, and the accounting group.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
COMPUTER SKILLS
- Proficient on company provided hardware and software, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with Workday and Adaptive Planning a plus.
OTHER SKILLS
- Strong financial modeling skills
- System report writing
