- The practice of nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse involves tasks and responsibilities within the scope of supportive and restorative care.
- Tasks include medication administration and specialized tasks under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse or licensed physician or dentist.
- Delivers nursing care in structured and routine situations free of scientific complexity.
- Involvement in preparation of patient for surgery, diagnostic tests, treatments, and examinations.
- Job Requirements
- Ability to administer treatments and perform routine tasks such as suctioning and urinary catheterizations.
- Qualified to administer medications within the scope of practice and handle specimen collection and processing accurately.
- Adept at setting up intravenous equipment and delivering solutions for infusion through peripheral access devices.
- Can administer blood or blood products with special training.
- Capable of documenting pertinent observations, treatments, medications, incidents, and accidents associated with patients on the appropriate documents.
- Efficient in recognizing and executing the unit-based model for the delivery of nursing care and managing assignments delegated by the Registered Professional Nurse.

- Assists with activities of daily living.
- Contributes to nursing care plan in collaboration with other members of the nursing staff.
- Reinforces the patient/family teaching process as identified by the RN.
- Provides emotional support to patients and their families/significant others.
- Assists with the rehabilitation of patients pursuant to the nursing care plan.
- Ensures the physical comfort and safety of the patient.
- Participates in patient care conferences.
- Performs resuscitative procedures such as BCLS and other activities in emergency situations as directed by the team.
