Position qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required; preferably in a human services field, to include psychology, social work, counseling, vocational rehabilitation, or related field; At least two (2) years' experience with job development and/or vocational rehabilitation with similar population preferred; Must have safe driving record and a current Colorado driver's license; Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred but not required. Job purpose:
The Employment Specialist will champion employment as a key factor in mental health recovery, and facilitate clients in their pursuit of vocational rehabilitation. This person will administer the daily employment program activities on assigned team(s) and assist in the referral of and service delivery to job seekers, including coordination with clinical treatment staff and other internal Employment staff, Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), and other partner agencies.
Knowledge, Skill & Ability (include materials and equipment directly used):
- Ability to motivate and support job seekers in work roles
- Strong interpersonal skills, including working in a team approach to assist job seekers
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload in a sometimes hectic environment
- Strong customer service skills, including public relations and community organization
- Ability to multitask and be flexible in working in a milieu setting and in the community
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with prospective employers to secure and promote successful job placements
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- General understanding of public transportation
- Proficient computer skills required for Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, and utilization of an electronic medical record. Must have ability to learn additional tools (i.e. Excel).
- Familiarity with State Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) Policies and Procedures for Supported Employment is desirable, as well as with Disability Benefit programs and work allowances
- Ability to operate standard office equipment including calculator, copy machine, fax and multi-line telephone.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands: Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Employee is frequently required to walk, sit, stand or kneel and occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop. Must have ability to sit for longer periods of time at a computer. Employee must be able to travel between Mind Springs Health sites or within the community. May be exposed to stressful situations that involve enraged, distraught and/or intoxicated individuals with possible mental disorders. Possible potential for exposure to communicable disease. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
