Overview:
The Personal Trainer is responsible for performing physical assessments on members and developing personalized exercise prescriptions based on each member's fitness assessment and health history. They orient members to the equipment and use of the facility and update member's exercise prescriptions as needed while monitoring participation for retention purposes. They must possess excellent communication skills. Understands and practices the institutional Core Values of Dignity, Justice, Stewardship, Compassionate Service and Excellence.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Skillfully asses health history to discern potential risks and needs
- Conducts fitness assessments with expertise
- Utilize discretion in determining when a physicians or dietitian referral is warranted
- Create personalized exercise prescriptions based on health history and assessment
- Ensure member saftey by proficiently adjusting equipment and overseeing proper utilization
- Monitor's member's utilization of facility and exercise prescription to promote safety and retention
- Knowledgeable in basic nutrition for exercise enhancement
- Designs effective exercise programs using principles of exercise physiology, anatomy, and kinesiology
- Monitors vitals signs during exercise sessions and promptly addresses any adverse reactions
- Guide members in achieving and updating individual fitness goals as necessary
- Promotes and encourages retention strategies
- Contributes to maintain a clean and organized facility at all times
- Mentors Exercise Technician Co-workers
- Effectively communicates member concerns to relevant staff members
- Contributes to fostering a positive and healthy work environment through leading by example in fitness and wellness practices
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Experience: 1 year experience is preferred for those meeting degree requirements. In lieu of degree, 4 years of relevant experience will be considered.
- Required Education: Bachelors degree in fitness, health, or sports related field or experience in lieu of degree as outlined below is required.
- Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) certification is required within 90 days of hire.
Certification from a nationally recognized institution including but not limited to one of the following is required:
- CES (Corrective Exercise Specialist)
- PES (Performance Enhancement Specialist)
- GPT (Group Personal Training Specialist)
- ACSM (American College Sports Medicine)
- ACE (American Council of Exercise)
- NASM (National Academy Sports Medicine
- CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist)
- Crossfit
- ISSA (International Sports Science Association)
