Shift: 40hrs week/Full-Time, Days (0700-1530)

Overview:
This is an entry level position requiring basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and movable equipment. It is recommended that incumbents attend one or two years of trade school to prepare them for advancement opportunities. The Maintenance Mechanic I position will allow the incumbent to learn operations for moveable equipment, electrical, plumbing, and pneumatic tube systems. The position will also allow an opportunity to learn proper use of basic tools and equipment necessary to maintain and troubleshoot these systems. This position will support large hospital campuses. Utilizes exceptional customer service and communication skills. The purpose of this position is to ensure a safe working environment and support an exceptional Environment of Care for Mercy.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Develops skill set to operate, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical equipment and devices including: blanket warmers, kitchen equipment, secondary electrical distribution systems, breaker panels, UPS, cameras, access control, OR lighting, OR tables, lighting, wiring devices, timers, parking lights, illuminated signs, battery lights, illuminated exit signs, TV systems, stretchers, wheelchairs, and hospital beds.- Develops skill set to operate, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain the pneumatic tube system.- Develops skill set to operate, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain the plumbing system including sinks, faucets, toilets, drain systems, eyewash stations, safety showers, kitchen equipment, valves, showers, irrigation system, dish machine, garbage disposals, and backflow devices.- Develops skill set to operate, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain moveable equipment such as beds, stretchers, and wheelchairs.- Develops skill set to repair and maintain medical gas delivery systems such as outlets, zone valves, flexible connectors, manifolds, and bulk storage systems.- Develops skill set to repair and maintain wet/dry fire sprinkler systems, gaseous fire extinguishing systems, and fire extinguishers- Learns to read blueprints and schematics, and use ammeters, volt-ohmmeters, ground tension testers, polarity testers, amp probes, and circuit tracers to troubleshoot necessary repairs.- Completes preventative maintenance and other work orders in an efficient manner. Closes work orders with relative cost and material information upon completion of the work. - Maintains on-time completion rate of 100% for all High-Risk PM work orders. Maintains at least 90% on-time completion rate for all other PM work orders. - Uses computer to record and close PM work order information- Accurately records testing information on logs and preventative maintenance work orders. - Rotates shifts as needed to accommodate work schedules.- Willing and able to assist with security tasks when necessary.- Assists with snow removal or other grounds maintenance activities as needed.- Performs other work duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience: This is an entry level position requiring basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and movable equipment.
- Preferred Education: High school diploma or equivalent. 2 or more years of training in a Technical or Vocational School.
- Licensure: Must maintain a valid drivers license. 2 or more years of training in a Technical or Vocational School. Electrical and/or PlumbingExperience: 1 or more years working as a maintenance technician in a healthcare, educational, or industrial setting.Certification/Registration: ASSE 6040 training for medical gas maintenance.
- Other: Requires oral and written communication skills to communicate with customers and follow instructions. Verbal ability required to read and understand technical manuals. Numerical ability required to make calculations for testing, installation, measurement, estimation and repair of equipment. Ability to prioritize work assignments, conceptualize and formulate finished product. Form perception is required when measuring and installing parts and equipment. Spatial ability required to understand forms and relationships when working from blueprints or specifications.- Requires knowledge and use of various computer software such as Outlook, TMS and/or Nuvolo. Ability to manage time and materials efficiently. Completes work assignments in a high-quality manner and the lowest cost to Mercy. Requires exceptional customer service skills and ability to achieve department goals. Incumbent must achieve favorable results on both oral and written competency exam prior to advancing to Maintenance Mechanic II. Requires general manual dexterity, basic math knowledge, and mechanical aptitude. Exposure to extreme temperatures, electric shock, and loud noise.
