Overview:

 

To provide tutorial assistance to at-risk students in the areas of nursing mathematics and nursing course content as well as assist in the development of effective study habits and learning processes.

 

Education: Minimum of Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree with strong knowledge and ability in nursing mathematics, and anatomy and physiology.

Licensure: The Nurse Tutor shall hold a current unrestricted license as a registered nurse in Missouri or be eligible for such as well as maintain basic life support (BLS) CPR certification.

Experience: Experience and/or background in nursing with experience in tutoring or teaching nursing.  Must be competent in associate degree nursing lecture material and possess adult teaching/learning skills. Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to interact effectively and courteously with diverse groups; must possess strong computer skills.  Experience with at-risk students preferred.

Certification/Registration: BLS

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provides one-on-one tutoring, group supplemental instruction workshops, and other activities designed to help students in the areas study and learning development, nursing content, and nursing mathematics. This instruction is in addition to that expected of, and provided by, course faculty.
  • Works with the students to develop effective study and time management skills as related to academic requirements. 
  • Assesses student needs and collaborates with faculty in the development of remediation/action plans for critical thinking skills for all levels of nursing students.
  • Regularly reviews and maintains Faculty Referral List, coordinates initial meeting with student based on Faculty Referral List data, maintains direct and open lines of communication with referring faculty member (providing updates when appropriate), facilitates recurrent appointments with referred student (as needed), and coordinates follow-up with referred student as deemed necessary based on the student's individual situation and need(s).
