Description

Provides operational leadership and direction to advance the goals of Regional service line within the mission and values of MedStar Health. The Senior Director oversees all clinical, financial and administrative operations for the regional service line at local Medstar hospitals; indirectly oversees operations at other off-site regional locations. Additionally, establishes broad goals and initiatives for implementation by clinical and administrative staff at the regional Medstar hospitals. Is responsible for the effective and efficient use of available resources and maintenance of high standards of patient-focused care within the Service line. He/she will be expected to keep abreast of marketplace issues and opportunities and collaborates with the executive and physician leadership including entity and hospital Presidents. All of these functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and the MedStar Health philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.
Education

  • Master's degree MBA/MHA or equivalent required
Experience
  • 5-7 years Progressive operational experience, of which at least 2 years occurred in a healthcare system. required and
  • Experience with performance improvement initiatives preferred. preferred
Licenses and Certifications

  • Develops and contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Ensures compliance with MedStar policies and procedures and governmental/accreditation regulations.
  • Collaborates with Vice President MMG, Regional Chiefs, Physician Executive Directors and/or Senior Management of regional hospitals to operationalize goals, objectives and mission of the service line in the context of overall MedStar Heath objectives.
  • Manages administrative operations of comprehensive, interdisciplinary services effectively and efficiently; provides administrative leadership in collaboration with the Vice President MMG, Regional Chief(s) or Physician Executive Director(s).
  • Ensures quality and economic performance in assigned areas of responsibility to support delivery of health care services in conjunction with the Vice President MMG, Regional Chiefs, Physician Executive Directors and/or Executive leadership.
  • Provides for the development and implementation of policies, systems and standards; ensures documentation and compliance.
  • Oversees recruitment, supervision, training, performance appraisal process, progressive discipline and dismissal of assigned personnel in accordance with MedStar policy and in partnership with Human Resources. Recommends and implements staff re-organizations as necessary. Assures that department is following all appropriate MedStar policies and procedures related to Human Resources.
  • Manages effective resource procurement and allocation.
  • Monitors performance of all assigned areas. Maintains a management reporting system, providing timely data for planning and evaluating programs and services.
  • Evaluates potential new initiatives, capital requests or program changes in collaboration with the Vice President MMG, Regional Chief(s) or Physician Executive Director(s).
  • Maintains effective communication and working relationships with medical staff within area of responsibility and among other disciplines with which the service interfaces.
  • Works with corporate MedStar Health, including Strategic Planning, Legal Services, Managed Care and Senior Management and other areas to assure that the goals and objectives of the MedStar Regional Service line are met within the corporate context.
  • Acts as financial officer for all areas of responsibility, preparing revenue and expense budgets for assigned departments including all practice locations affiliated with each hospital entity. Identify budgetary objectives and financial goals for the areas of responsibility and establish systems for continuous management to meet revenue, expense and capital projections.
  • In collaboration with the Vice President MMG, Regional Chief, Physician Executive Director and/or Presidents, creates business strategies, including outreach, to grow programs within the service line.
  • In conjunction with MedStar Managed Care, conducts oversight of insurance and non-insured contracting, enrollment, and credentialing.
  • In collaboration with the Vice President MMG, Regional Chief(s), Physician Executive Director(s) Vice President of MMG and/or Service Line Directors, responsible for physician recruitment and employment contracting.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
