Description
The research associate is responsible for coordinating individual study activities associated with the fair and responsible conduct of research. This includes performing data collection and management, implementing interventions and protocol adherence, documentation and quality control. This may also include implementing research activities including grant preparation, patient recruitment and interactions, quantitative and qualitative data collection, and data base management. The research associate takes direction from the program director for quality and safety research and principal investigators for these research activities. Activities may occur across multiple sites and also in collaboration with quality, safety, risk management, research, education, simulation and human factors professionals to improve performance and reliability in patient safety, quality and healthcare delivery both within and external to the MedStar community.
Education
- Training and certification in a health care related field such as nursing assistant, medical assistant, or medical technician required
- 5-7 years working within a clinical environment with direct patient and professional healthcare interactions. Must have command of medical terminology and working knowledge of word, excel, powerpoint, and internet research skills. Knowledge of patient safety and quality improvement terminology is an asset required
- Experience with qualitative data collection, data analysis, database management, and use of redcap preferred
- Certification in a health care related field such as nursing assistant, medical assistant, or medical technician required
- Ability to analyze challenging and complex research issues and opportunities and be proactive in proposing/implementing solutions.
- Ability to develop strong relationships with all functions within the MIQS and across other MSH entities.
- Ability to apply independent judgment to the implementation and application of research protocols and employ independent decision making solving real life challenges and identifying gaps and program needs.
- Ability to communicate effectively with multiple audiences using a variety of formats.
- Examples include: written communications to researchers, staff and other stakeholders that clearly outline the situation and action items; verbal presentations and briefings to managers, senior leaders and other parties.
- Seeks increased responsibility while remaining conscientious, thorough, accurate, and reliable records with respect to the organizational goals and the needs of the researchers and staff.
- This includes being available and responsive to issues and concerns as they arise.
- Functions well when subjected to the rigors and pressures of research associated with tight deadlines and schedules, which could often entail overtime work.
