MedStar Health is looking for a Program Therapist- Outpatient Behavioral Health Services to join our team!  

The Program Therapist- Outpatient Behavioral Health Services provides direct clinical social work services or psychological counseling/psychotherapy to patients and their families as part of a multidisciplinary team. Completes psychosocial assessments, intake evaluations, outpatient assessments, patient treatment plans, facilitates group therapy, family/individual therapy; and assists in program development and implementation.

Primary Duties: 

  • Evaluates patients by interviewing them and family/significant others to assess current psychiatric conditions and treatment needs. Completes intake and psychosocial assessments. Develops, monitors and reviews patient treatment plans with measurable goals. 

  • Facilitates psychotherapy groups and individual and family sessions. Documents in patient's medical record the effectiveness of these interventions in resolving psychological barriers towards improved functioning and discharge. Documents all interventions.  

  • Participates in multidisciplinary team approach to patient care working collaboratively with other team members. Completes daily patient charge tickets and works to manage care of patients with managed care/HMO/insurance restrictions.  

  • Provides direct social work services to patients/family in relation to social and practical environmental problems, as well as emotional problems. Monitors current knowledge of mental health issues and treatment of chemically dependent or patients with co-occurring disorders. 

  • Contributes to center's training and educational activities. Collaborates with outside community agencies to facilitate comprehensive patient care. Participates in Performance Improvement geared at improving quality of services and ensuring regulatory compliance.  

 

Qualifications:  

  • Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology or a related discipline. 

  • 1-2 years in assessing, diagnosing and developing treatment plans for psychiatric patients. 

  • Experience facilitating patients' access to community resources and conducting therapeutic groups. 

  • License Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Independent Clinical Social Work (LICSW) or Licensed Psychologist or Licensed Professional Counselor.
