PRN Group III/B Nurse - Solid Organ Transplant/Hepatology Intermediate Care Unit (S4-2) (Georgetown)

The new S42, Pavilion 4 North, is a 28-bed unit which has been recognized by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) with a BEACON Award for Excellence through 2026. Clinical Nurses on S42 provide expert care to acutely ill adults that are waiting for or have recently received a solid organ transplant (liver, kidney, pancreas, intestine) or have undergone other hepatobiliary surgeries (TACE, liver resection, Whipple). MedStar Georgetown is one of only six centers in the United States that perform intestinal transplants and averages over 100 liver transplants per year. At MedStar Georgetown we also perform kidney and pancreas transplants and serve patients regionally, nationally, and internationally. Additional medical diagnoses include end-stage renal disease, end-stage liver failure, hepatitis, chest pain, cardiac arrhythmias, sepsis, CHF, and GI bleeds. All beds are equipped to provide continuous cardiac and pulse oximetry bedside monitoring, and nurses are essential in managing high-risk medications and performing in-depth discharge teaching. Nurses work with the interdisciplinary team - including physicians, pharmacists, and nurse practitioners - to deliver intense pre- and post-surgical care that is focused on infection prevention and patient education. The nursing team is a highly educated and motivated group of professionals that participate in collaborative governance, achieves certifications, and drives positive patient outcomes.
