MedStar Health is looking for a Burn Rehabilitation Therapist to join our team at MedStar Washington Hospital Center!
As a Burn Rehabilitation Therapist, you will plan occupational therapy or physical therapy programs for patients who have experienced severe burns. Evaluates patient's motor and neurological capabilities, revises therapy program as progress is noted and instructs patients in therapeutic procedures to be continued at home.

Primary Duties:
Evaluates patient's physical and functional status within the context of burn wound/scar using appropriate screens/ tests to determine ROM, muscle strength, mobility, and functional ADL's. Records evaluation results in accordance with established standards. Interview patients and review medical records to obtain diagnosis, medical history, and patient's preinjury level of function to establish appropriate treatment plans.
Selects from a variety of treatment modalities such as therapeutic exercise, ADL's, orthotic/ prosthetic devices, and other therapeutic agents required to improve coordination, muscle strength, ROM, fine motor / gross motor skills, perceptual / cognitive abilities and that address scar management / cosmesis. Establishes therapy goals based on evaluation findings and formulates burn therapy treatment plans consistent with goals. Participates on a treatment team to ensure integration of burn plans into overall treatment plan. Regularly monitors and changes goals / treatment plans to ensure patient progress.
Maintains a clean and safe work environment. Adheres to Universal/Standard precautions when treating patients to minimize risk of infection. Cleans equipment used in patient care in accordance with established hospital/ departmental procedures. Monitors equipment regularly to ensure patient safety. Designs, fabricates, and fits orthotic and pressure garments for patients using various materials to improve patient function and cosmesis.
Discusses evaluation findings and treatment plans with patients, families, and significant others as appropriate to ensure understanding of therapy goals, plans and process to solicit cooperation and promote successful patient outcomes. Participates in interdisciplinary Burn Team rounds. Regularly documents patient's progress to goals and other significant patient information in medical records in accordance with established hospital and department policy. for physicians, other treatment members and/or supervisor's review.
Maintains records and logs of treatments performed and prepares charge slips for billing purposes daily in accordance with hospital and departmental policy. Participates in Burn Team discharge planning. Develops home programs, recommends continued therapy and additional services as appropriate for continued patient rehabilitation and continuity of care.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in occupational or physical therapy.
Job-related experience.
AOTA registration.
D.C (District of Columbia) licensure as an Occupational Therapist or Physical Therapist.
This position has a hiring range of $72,758 - $130,041
