Job Summary:
MedStar Health is looking for a Plumber to join our team at MedStar Washington Hospital Center! The ideal candidate will possess the demonstrated ability to read, understand, and interpret equipment manuals, written specifications, meters and gauges, models/graphic illustrations such as: layout diagrams, blueprints, mechanical and architectural drawings, work sketches and schematic drawings as well as written and oral instructions.
As a Plumber, you will install, maintain, and repair plumbing, fire protection and medical gas systems throughout the Hospital.

Primary Duties:
Installs, tests, maintains, and repairs a variety of equipment including fires systems devices (e.g., flow switches, tamper switches, pull stations, and duct, smoke, and heat detectors), fire sprinkler and standpipe systems and related components; pipes, traps, pressure reducing stations and valves for gas, water, vent, and sanitary drainage systems.
Troubleshoots and diagnoses engineering plant failures and system malfunctions, including problems involving the plumbing, medical gas, and fire protection systems throughout the hospital. Develops and implements solutions and corrections. Inspects and critically evaluates the condition of all system components, work in progress, and completes corrective and preventive maintenance to ensure proper standards have been met.
Performs scheduled Preventive Maintenance and Demand Work Orders for plumbing, medical gas, fire protection and related systems as assigned. Recommends improvement and modifications. Maintains accurate records and logs. Develops estimates for various installations and repairs to plumbing, fire protection, medical gas, and related systems. Determines the methods to be used, estimates time, materials, and human resources needed and may be required to secure the appropriate tools/equipment and materials.
Guides and instructs lower classified personnel in the installation, repair and testing of plumbing, fire protection, medical gas, and related systems. Tests several types of equipment with specialized hand and power tools.
Learns and remains current with the latest applicable federal and local governing codes, standards, and regulations regarding fire, safety, plumbing, and plant operations, including, but not limited to: OSHA, NFPA, The Joint Commission, ASHRAE, ANSI, DCRA, D.C. Fire & Safety Codes, and the Hospital's Fire and Life Safety practices.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED.
Trade/vocational school graduate or equivalent.
3-4 years as a plumber.
Must hold or qualify for a journeyman plumbing license in Maryland/D.C or Virginia.
Certification as a Medical Gas System Installer within 180 Days.
