Description

Provides timely, knowledgeable and professional phlebotomy procedures to all in-patient, out-patient and contracted service patients while maintaining an acute awareness of the age specific needs of each client. Maintains a professional appearance while inspiring procedural confidence through knowledgeable application of their skills. Processes collected specimens in a manner that supports specimen integrity guidelines.  This is a part time role, working hours are alternating weekends 12:30pm - 9pm Saturday and Sunday.  
Education

  • Vocational/Technical Diploma Completion of an accredited organization that includes phlebotomy training required
Experience
  • 1-2 years Phlebotomy experience preferred and
  • Phlebotomy technician, certification from agencies examples (ASCP, NPA, APA ...) preferred
Licenses and Certifications
  • CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant
  • ASCP - American Society of Clinical Pathologist
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to comprehend and follow the policies and procedures for MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center.
  • Ability to read, write and speak or communicate in English to successfully accomplish the essential duties of the position.

  • Knowledgeable in all phlebotomy techniques to include micro puncture, venipuncture, blood bank collection process, blood culture collection process, and bleeding time.

  • Explain all processes to assist in minimizing customer/patient anxiety. Answer patient questions when appropriate and within their scope of practice.

  • Participates in inter or intra departmental performance improvements.
