General Summary of Position
Performs technical duties related to drug distribution and dispensing as a member of the pharmaceutical team to improve the outcome and quality of patient care, under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares all medications for dispensing. Includes drug selection, labeling, and packaging.
  • Compounds extemporaneous products in accordance with the established procedures
  • Pre-packs oral medications in accordance with established standards and procedures.
  • Performs all Pyxis functions including but not limited to pending, loading, refilling and unloading medications
  • Delivers filled orders to assigned nursing units and departments as scheduled and as needed.
  • Assists in checking or investigating missing dose requests and prints required labels from the standardized Pharmacy computer program.
  • Prepares parenteral admixture solutions.
  • Monitors stock inventory levels, expiration dates, and replenishes supplies of all stock drugs, communicating status/availability of drugs e.g. out of stock drugs.
  • Processes drug charges/credits an restocks return medications.
  • Utilizes computerized controlled drug system in the dispensing and returning of Schedule Drugs.
  • Performs quality improvement activities such as code carts, and checking outdated medications.
  • Demonstrates on a consistent basis, C2C behaviors which comprise and maintains open and appropriate communications and an atmosphere of caring, concern, respect and support for patients, visitors, medical staff and coworkers.
  • Demonstrates excellence in internal and external customer service ability in the areas of communication and service (i.e. answering the telephone after 3 rings and responding to issues in a timely manner).

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • High School Diploma or GED required or
    • Two years of College completed preferred

    Experience

    • 1-2 years Minimum of 2 years of hospital pharmacy experience (with IV admixture) preferred

    Licenses and Certifications

    • LPT - Licensed Pharmacy Tech Pharmacy Technician Certification Upon Hire preferred

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
    • Must have ability to utilize computer equipment, prepackaging machines, needles/syringes, and medication carts.
    • Needs basic mathematical skills and a working knowledge of the metric system.


    This position has a hiring range of $19.17 - $33.08
