General Summary of Position
The PI&A Project Manager oversees and manages the execution of small-(departmental or entity-specific) to large-scale (multi-entity or enterprise-wide) projects aligned with MedStar's administrative, clinical, financial, and technical strategic goals and objectives. He or she coaches and mentors project team members through the details of: project initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, and closing projects, including benefits realization and sustainable transition to the business owner. The PI&A Project Manager supports sustainability and a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for the application of PI methods and tools for operational teams, as well as a strategy for implementing them. He or she practices sound change management approaches to engage and lead teams, while developing sustainable relationships with project stakeholders.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Applies a structured project management framework to collaboratively define and manage complex business problems from project conception to solution development, sustainment of results, and transition to operational ownership.
  • Performs a work breakdown analysis to appropriately scope activities, including task analyses, process maps, and assessments of environmental characteristics at the front line. Synthesizes findings to determine resources gaps, organizational gaps, obstacles, workarounds, best practices, and benchmarks that can be incorporated into the project plan.
  • Develops and executes a project schedule to baseline the current environment, design and implement project management strategies, measure quantifiable improvement, and produce anticipated deliverables. Performs appropriate project close-out and sustainment processes to document lessons learned and impact on the organization.
  • Establishes a strong project foundation through creation and collaboration with sponsors and the team on scoping and planning documents, including project charters, statements of work, project plans, team structures, work breakdown structures, etc.
  • Incorporates sound change management strategies into project plans based on thorough stakeholder and organizational assessments. Leverages industry best practice change management methods and tools.
  • Proactively manages and communicates risks and barriers, manages transition of new processes, drives and communicates results, and celebrates successes. Incorporates use of risk management tools to identify, mitigate, manage, and/or resolve critical risks to project success.
  • Demonstrates comfort with ambiguity and can synthesize clarity and create direction from assessment of a complex situation with limited guidance. Applies continuous improvement concepts and encourages performance improvement activities and training when it benefits the stakeholder team.
  • Develops relationships of trust, collaboration and influence with project sponsors, process owners and frontline staff. Establishes a regular communication cadence with stakeholders about project progress, next steps, risks, and status of deliverables.
  • Develops and leverages influential relationships at every level of the organization to promote change. Able to influence others based on an understanding of their position, a recognition of the business needs, and the ability to provide and present a sound, evidence-based rationale for change.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree Business, Healthcare, Industrial Engineering, Healthcare Systems Engineering, Public Administration or related field. required and
    • Master's degree preferred

    Experience

    • 3-4 years Of increasingly responsible project management, consulting, performance improvement or relevant professional experience. Experience in leading large initiatives with a high degree of organizational impact. Experience in complex integrated delivery network, acute care hospital or healthcare management highly preferred. Demonstrated results and achievements in areas of experience. preferred

    Licenses and Certifications

    • Project Management Certification preferred
    • Lean, Six Sigma Certification/Training preferred


    This position has a hiring range of $70,428 - $124,467
