Description
The RN Patient Navigator (NPN) helps coordinate services among medical personnel. Navigators provide support and guidance, linking patients to existing health care services. The NPN is a nurse who is familiar and experienced with oncology care and will be physically available to the patient and family. The NPN acts as clinician, care coordinator, educator and counselor. The NPN works collaboratively within an interdisciplinary health team and is responsible for providing comprehensive and age-appropriate care to both well and/or ill patients. The NPN educates patients and/or intervenes in acute and chronic illness.
Education
- Associate's degree from an accredited school of nursing required
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred
- 3-4 years experience providing direct patient care in an oncology or related clinical setting required
- RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in Maryland required
- CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
- Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
- OCN - Oncology Nurse Certification or infusion certification (CRNI) within 180 Days required
