Description

Pulls surgical instrumentation and supplies for patient/procedure-specific surgical cases.
Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • May require up to l year of technical or other specialized training.
Experience
  • 6 months related experience required
  • Experience working with computerized inventory management systems preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Requires the ability to read and write; and knowledge of grammar, and arithmetic including fractions and decimals.
  • May require the use of standard office/medical equipment (i.e., typewriter, personal computer, data terminal, on-line printer, calculator, telephone, facsimile, copier, sterilizing equipment, blood pressure cuff, or tables); the preparation, comparison or checking of reports, records and related data; and basic use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings and knowledge of their application.
  • Prepares and delivers complete case carts from preference cards for patient/procedure-specific surgical cases, including add on case carts to the Operating Room according to departmental standards.
  • Restocks supply carts in designated areas utilizing inventory control methods.
  • Completes surgical case cart and surgical equipment staging activities.
  • Conducts case cart and instrument return and restocking activities.
  • Conducts supply storage (shelves, bins, cabinets) cleaning and return activities.
  • Tracks and monitors availability of supplies and instruments for procedures in collaboration with the members of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD)/Operating Room Material Management (ORMM) team and Operating Room (OR) Team throughout the day.
  • Communicates regularly with operating room staff to ensure that proper supplies for each case are picked and delivered as needed.
  • Maintains adequate knowledge of surgical procedures, supplies, ordering and product placement.
  • Serves as liaison between clinicians and supply chain to ensure coordination of necessary instruments, supplies and loaner (vendor) equipment between OR and Sterile Processing.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with other departments and participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards.
