MedStar Health is looking for an Officer II Armed to join our team at MedStar Washington Hospital Center!
As an Officer II Armed, you will ensure a safe environment for our patients, staff and visitors by assisting the shift supervisor with daily supervision of the shift to include monitoring the communication center and monitoring security officers to ensure their duties are being performed correctly. In this role, you will act as a resource and mentor to security staff and conduct in-service trainings. You may assume a charge role as needed. Officers are essential associates in a 24/7 environment and may be required to be flexible with scheduling and work "off-shifts." May obtain and maintain State of Maryland and/or District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department Special Police Officer commission to carry out duties associated with crime control and response, designated as an Unarmed Officer, assigned, and deployed within the hospital consistent with the limitations of the Unarmed SPO commission from Maryland State Police or District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department.
Primary Duties:
· Conduct designated security patrols throughout the facility as directed.
· Patrol the hospital campus/grounds via security motor vehicle or bicycle.
· Observe and monitor conditions, objects, or persons that may require police action.
· Control access to and inspect packages of those leaving buildings.
· Report all safety, security and law violations.
· Immediately respond to emergencies to provide necessary assistance to employees and customers.
· Respond to security and medical code calls.
· Assist with training of new associates as necessary.
· Collect and ensure patient valuables and lost-and-found articles.
· May fill in for Security Officer I or supervisor.
· Monitor camera surveillance and other security technology systems as directed.
· Monitor conduct of patients and visitors on hospital premises. May need to confront unauthorized persons for questioning as needed.
· Participate in investigations, maintain records and prepare incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities.
· Proficiently utilize nonviolent crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to ensure staff, patients, visitors and all others remain safe, calm and respected while onsite.
· May testify at legal proceedings.
Qualifications:
· High School Diploma or G.E.D. required. Associates degree preferred.
· 2 years of satisfactory performance as a MedStar Security Officer I Armed, required.
· Exceptions to the 2-year requirement may be considered based on extensive relevant external armed security officer/prior law enforcement job experience.
· Maintain an active and valid driver's license.
· MD Special Police Commission (MDSPC) required.
· HQL required.
· Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and CPR certification required within 90-days.
IAHSS Certification preferred.
This position has a hiring range of $23.19 - $40.61
