General Summary of Position
Ensures a safe environment for our patients, staff and visitors. Patrols hospital property, responds to calls for assistance, and reports on conditions, objects or persons which may impact the security and/or safety of patients, associates, physicians, visitors, or vendors, and responds according to established policies, procedures and regulations. Mentors and trains security staff. Assumes charge role as needed. Security Officers are essential associates in a 24/7 environment and may be required to be flexible with scheduling and work "off- shifts." May obtain and maintain State of Maryland and/or District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department Special Police Officer commission to carry out duties associated with crime control and response, designated as an Unarmed Security Officer, assigned and deployed within the hospital consistent with the limitations of the Unarmed SPO commission from Maryland State Police or District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Associate's degree preferred
Experience
- 1-2 years related security or law enforcement experience required or
- 1-2 years Medstar service in lieu of security experience. required
Licenses and Certifications
- DL - Valid State Driver's License in good standing required
- MD Special Police Commission - MDSPC preferred or
- Special Police Officer - DC - SPO preferred
- If SPO, must satisfy ongoing training requirements to maintain SPO commission in Maryland and/or DC. required
- IAHSS - Certification As A Security Officer preferred
- CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
- Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
- Must successfully complete all MedStar initial training related to violence prevention, de-escalation and crisis prevention intervention.

- Ability to remain calm and thoughtful during a crisis.
- Ability to assist in deescalating situations with strong emotions and conflict.
- Basic computer skills preferred.
This position has a hiring range of $18.33 - $29.96
