Description

Assists Manager and Medical Director in coordinating daily activities of vascular laboratory, including delegating duties and assisting in evaluating the performance of more junior lab personnel. Provides training/orientation for new staff as required. Performs full range of duties of staff Non-Invasive Peripheral Vascular Laboratory Technician.
Education

  • Completion of an ARDMS recognized school in vascular technology, with knowledge of symptomatology, the disease process, anatomy and medical terminology required
Experience
  • 1-2 years of progressively more responsible job-related experience in non-invasive vascular laboratory performing vascular procedures. Work experience can be substituted for new grads with at least one year internship experience required
Licenses and Certifications
  • Registration as a Peripheral Vascular Technician by the ARDMS within 180 Days required
  • RVT - Registered Vascular Technologist within 180 Days required
  • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
  • Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
  • Assists the Chief Technologist and the Medical Director in coordinating the activities of the vascular lab personnel on a daily basis. Assists in the training/orientation of new staff and the evaluation of lab personnel.
  • Coordinates scheduling of patient testing as well as the determination as to whether a patient is stable enough for transport. Prioritizes testing schedules to accommodate emergencies.
  • Obtains, prepares, collects, and maintains patient medical history and examination data. Interviews patients and reviews available records, prepares study reporting sheets, collects arteriography report findings for comparison with NIPV lab test findings, and collects patient data and test statistics for research studies.
  • Calibrates and tests equipment, including, but not limited to: pulse volume recorder (PVR), the non-cardiac treadmill, the Doppler ultrasound velocity detector and real time imager, prior to use.
  • Performs diagnostic testing procedures for NIPV patients in the laboratory as well as at patient sites in the hospital including patient units, intensive care units, operating rooms, recovery rooms, emergency rooms, and MedStar trauma units. Assesses blood flow in both the arteries and veins by Duplex scan imaging and Doppler wave form analysis. Takes patient pulse volume recordings, wave forms, ankle and brachial indices, and segmental pressures of the upper and lower extremities as instructed using Doppler ultrasound and plethysmographic units.
  • Performs mobile Doppler studies at the bedside of ICU patients and provides diagnostic testing in clinical settings other than the vascular lab in the form of portable studies in the O.R., MedStar, ER Recovery Room, Intensive Care Units, National Rehabilitation Hospital and different ambulatory outpatient locations.
  • Provides preliminary results for patient's reports, prepares and records patient data and provides copies of reporting forms for patient file in vascular and patient medical records. Provides assistance to physician on research projects and data collection for statistical analysis. Prepares and collates daily reports/patient charts for signature by Department of Surgery Chair or his/her designee.
  • Oversees the ordering and inventory of lab supplies as well as the maintenance and upkeep of laboratory equipment
  • Administers the payroll and time sheet records in the absence of the Manager/Medical Director.
  • Remains current in field through personal reading and attendance at conferences and seminars.
