MedStar Health is looking for a PRN-As Needed Non-Invasive EKG Technician to join our team at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.

As a Non-Invasive Technician, you will perform and assist in a variety of examinations in the non-invasive cardiology laboratory, e.g., electrocardiograph (EKG) signal averaging, Holter monitor, exercise tests, etc. for use by the physician in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac abnormalities. Provides preliminary interpretation of test results and performs ancillary support functions.

Primary Duties: 

  • Performs non-invasive examinations, i.e., electrocardiograph (EKG) signal averaging; application and scanning of Holter monitors. Assists in setting up patient for exercise/treadmill tests: nuclear medicine, stress echoes and non-treadmill dobutamine echoes. 

  • Communicates purpose and procedures related to the examinations to the patient and comforts/reassures patient about the examination. Notifies physician if patient is in distress or if hemodynamic status is deteriorating. 

  • Ensures non-invasive equipment is appropriately maintained and notifies appropriate personnel regarding malfunctions. Logs repairs, service and/or adjustments, as required. Serves as resource to Electrocardiograph Technicians (EKG Techs) as relates to their activities in the Nuclear Medicine Department. Compiles monthly statistics. 

  • Assists nurses and/or fellows with dobutamine and stress echoes, as needed. Participates in the development of effective Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement (QA/QI) activities to improve quality of care. Attends conferences and meetings to maintain/expand clinical knowledge base of non-invasive test procedures. 

 

Qualifications:  

  • High School Diploma or GED. 

  • 6 to 12 months experience in cardiac arrhythmias and exercise testing. 

  • May require up to 1 year of technical or other specialized training, such as in arrhythmia and exercise testing and medical terminology
