Description

Performs diagnostic medical radiographic exams and fluoroscopic exams in and out of the operating room setting. May operate mammography equipment, magnetic resonance scanner or CT scanner to obtain images for use by physicians in diagnoses and treatment of pathologies. Produces computerized tomographic scanner or magnetic resonance scanner or radiographs of designated anatomical areas. May assist physicians with imaging guidance for biopsy procedures in diagnostic and one of the following; mammography, CT or ultrasound.
Education

  • Associate's degree Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists ARRT required and
Experience
  • Less than 1 year Experience in diagnostic radiology; some experience in mammography or ct required up to 1 year operating room fluoroscopy required
Licenses and Certifications
  • ARRT Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists licensed by State of Maryland required and
  • CMT - Certified Mammography Tech Mammography or CT certified preferred and
  • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required and
  • Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.

  • Working knowledge of various computer software applications and basic computer skills required.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Outstanding quality and customer service experience required.

  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Acquires raw data to obtain the best possible image.
  • Assists physicians with imaging guidance for biopsy procedures..
  • Enters patient data at start of examination and monitors data acquisition during procedure. Ensures images are of acceptable diagnostic quality and completeness.
  • Instructs and demonstrates the Imaging equipment operation and other technical aspects for professional staff and students.
  • Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work areas. Reports any unsafe or potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Maintains X-ray and other equipment in efficient operating order. Performs preventative maintenance on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Notifies appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and repairs needed.
  • Operates control console for each patient's scan, including selection of proper imaging techniques; operates various peripheral hardware.
  • Performs basic radiography and fluoroscopy in and out of the operating room setting.
  • Obtains patient history, explains routine procedures, and addresses patient concerns.
  • Performs IV Access and contrast injections per departmental policy.
  • Requests and orders supplies as necessary to keep materials on hand at all times.
  • Reviews and evaluates completed tests for quality, completeness, and type of test ordered. Ensures quality images.
  • Schedules examinations when needed to ensure smooth flow and optimal utilization of equipment.
  • Transfers images to PACS for interpretation and storage.
  • Transfers, positions, and instructs patients regarding the procedure to obtain and affect the desired radiographic diagnostic results as specified by the physician.
  • Transports patients as needed to and from the department.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
