Description
Manages security staff. Responsible for hospital and staff training and budget implementation. Monitors and provides protection and security for hospital buildings and premises, and for associates, patients, and visitors. Manages the daily operations of the Security Department. Patrols hospital property, responds to calls for assistance, and reports on conditions, objects or persons which may impact the security and/or safety of patients, associates, physicians, visitors, or vendors, and responds according to established policies, procedures and regulations. Must obtain and maintain a connection to corporate security leadership and State of Maryland and/or District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department Special Police Officer commission to carry out duties associated with crime control and response, designated as an Unarmed Security Officer, assigned and deployed within the hospital consistent with the limitations of the Unarmed SPO commission from Maryland State Police or District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department.
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required and
- Bachelor's degree in related field preferred
- 5-7 years Progressively more responsible job-related security or law enforcement experience required and
- 3-4 years Prior supervisory experience required and
- Experience required in healthcare, university, and/or hospitality setting (patient-first, customer-first environment) required
- One year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.
- DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State (DRLIC) Valid driver's license. required and
- MD Special Police Commission - MDSPC Commissioned as a Special Police Officer by the State of Maryland State Police and/or District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department within 6 months of hire. within 180 Days required and
- Special Police Officer - DC - SPO Commissioned as a Special Police Officer by the State of Maryland State Police and/or District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department within 6 months of hire. within 180 Days required and
- IAHSS - Certification As A Security Officer Basic or Advanced Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) certification from IAHSS preferred and
- Certified Protection Professional (CPP) - Board Certified in Security Management preferred and
- CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required and
- Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit. and
- Must successfully complete all MedStar initial training related to violence prevention, de-escalation and crisis prevention intervention. required
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Experience with coaching and developing a high performing security team.
- Ability to remain calm and thoughtful during a crisis.
- Ability to assist in de-escalating situations with strong emotions and conflict.
- Basic computer skills preferred.
