General Summary of Position

MedStar Health is looking for a Medical Physicist Assistant to join our team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital!  

The Medical Physicist Assistant is a trained technical personnel performing proton patient specific QA, QA-CT replanning. The assistant will also assist with Image imports and exports, image fusion for multimodality imaging and treatments. Other physics tasks may also be assigned by the Chief Physicist when considered appropriate. The QA assistant will be supervised by clinical physicists in performing the tasks.

Primary Duties: 

  • Perform patient-specific radiation measurement and analysis under the supervision of a Clinical Physicist. Perform Quality Assurance test of Proton and X-Ray beam characteristics under the supervision of Clinical Physicist.  

  • Test the mechanical characteristics of Therapy and imaging equipment under the supervision of Clinical Physicist. Ensure that OSHA requirements are effectively followed under the supervision of Clinical Physicist. Comply with all MedStar Georgetown University Hospital Proton therapy Center policies related to privacy Rules established under the Health Information Privacy and Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) under the supervision of Clinical Physicist.  

  • Perform proton patient specific QA. Generate patient QA plans from clinical plans under the supervision of Clinical Physicist. Assist morning proton machine QA when needed under the supervision of Clinical Physicist. Perform QA-CT re-planning under the supervision of Clinical Physicist. 

  • Perform CT, MR, PET image imports and exports from various modalities when required by treating physicians under the supervision of Clinical Physicist. Performs Image fusion using Eclipse, MIM, Raystation, Cyberknife Precision under the supervision of Clinical Physicist. 

  • Assist with linac machine QA when trained and directed under the supervision of Clinical Physicist. Perform radiation measurements under the supervision of a clinical physicist 

 

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's degree in physics, engineering, applied science or related field. 

  • Technical degree in physics or related field. 

  • 1-2 years Skills in operating machinery, electronic and electrical equipment.
