Description

We are actively recruiting for an experienced Medical Editor to join our team at MedStar Health Research Institute in Washington, DC.

Serves as Medical Editor through the coordination of the review and publication of articles for major medical journals. Responsible for all aspects of informational content and timely management of manuscript submissions, while managing all interactions between authors, editors, and the publisher.


Education
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Business Administration concentration preferred
Experience
  • 3-4 years of editorial experience, preferably in a medical environment required
Licenses and Certifications
  • No special certification, registration or licensure required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to exercise independent judgment. Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to effectively interact with all levels of management, internal departments and external agencies. Working knowledge of various computer software applications.
  • Receives manuscripts from senior level scientists and physicians, reviews their content, and submits them accordingly to the appropriate reviewer.
  • Maintains comprehensive database of all authors and manuscripts.
  • Acts as primary liaison to all submitting authors, including all written and verbal communication. Notifies authors of receipt, as well as publication acceptance or rejection.
  • Maintains correspondence with journal Editor in Chief, Deputy Editors, Associate Editors, and members of the Editorial Board.
  • Prepares announcements, Calls for papers, Information for Authors, Editorial Notes, grant proposals, and e-mail blasts pertaining to new journal information.
  • Screens newsworthy information relevant to the field from all media sources, and drafts monthly journal and website content as needed.
  • Proofreads, edits and prepares physicians' manuscripts for in- and out-of-house journal submissions.
  • Assists Editor in Chief in assessing range of journal content, and inviting submission of articles to enhance broader scope of journal..
  • Provides logistical support for meetings of senior Editors or Editorial Board.
