General Summary of Position

MedStar Health has a full-time Manager opening at our Transfer Center located in Lanham, MD. This role has direct and overall responsibility for the Transfer Center which is responsible for receiving and processing requests for: Emergency and non-emergency hospital patient transfers and transports, as well as critical communications and notifications.

The work schedule is primarily day shift from 8am-5pm with on-call duties, but the Transfer Center is open 24/7 and coverage on evenings, overnights, and weekends may be required as well.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assures appropriate 24/7 staffing with routine and on-call schedules. Assures excellent customer service and professional behavior. Assures procedures and policies are followed.
  • Assures appropriate configuration and use of telephone and radio equipment. Assures adherence to FCC (and other applicable government agencies) rules and regulations.
  • Assures appropriate documentation in the electronic record systems
  • Creates and maintains a MTC quality assurance program. Collaborates with data and analytics teams to provide regular dashboarding and reports on patient transfers and transports.
  • Develops and contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
  • Participates regularly in program meetings.
  • Stays current with advancements in the industry and strives to maintain the MTC as a state-of-the-art communication center.
  • Maintains current educational standards for roles in the MedStar Transfer Center and Radiology on Call Center

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Associate degree required.
    • Bachelor's degree preferred.
    • One year of relevant education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

    Experience

    • 3-4 years Progressively more responsible job experience in a communication center or related field required.
    • Experience in a health care related industry such as EMS or hospital required.
    • Prior supervisory or management experience preferred.
    • One year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.

    Licenses and Certifications

    • National Association of Air Medical Communication Center Specialist Certification - NAACS Current National Association of Air Medical Communication Center Specialist (NACCS) certification within 1 Year required and
    • EMT - Emergency Medical Tech Current or prior certification/license as an EMT preferred.
    • LP - Licensed Paramedic Current or prior certification/license as a paramedic preferred.
    • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Current or prior certification/license as a registered nurse preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
    • Excellent personnel management and interpersonal skills.
    • Excellent keyboard and data entry skills.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
    • Understanding of Quality Assurance and Process Improvement processes.
    • Understanding of telephone and radio systems.


    This position has a hiring range of $63,793 - $113,318
