General Summary of Position
Manages a variety of operational areas within the Health Information Management (HIM) department. Establish and maintain efficient and effective day-to-day operations within the HIM department. Executes department and ambulatory policies and procedures. Assists in planning operational workflow and staffing patterns to ensure department goals are met.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops department goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. Ensures compliance with business unit policies and procedures and governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Develops and recommends department operating budget and manages resources according to approved budget.
  • Selects, trains, orients, and assigns department staff. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and conducts performance management planning. Initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions. Maintains ongoing communication with subordinates to review programs, provide feedback, discuss new developments, and exchange information.
  • Manages HIM staff.
  • Monitors HIM staff to measure, track, and report productivity, and provides resources and training to ensure that performance expectations are met.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff and providers to support them in HIM processes.
  • Plan and conduct routine department meetings.
  • Ensures management of vendor and other contracted consultants.
  • Assumes responsibility for the timeliness and integrity of record functions (e.g., Release of Information, Incomplete Records, Chart Correction).
  • Develop, revise, and implements policy and procedures for Ambulatory HIM.
  • Participate in the development of goals and objectives for the department.
  • Acts as a Subject Matter Expert and provides support to various projects.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and business unit in community outreach efforts.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams and maintains effective working relationships with other departments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management preferred

    Experience

    • 3-4 years HIM managerial experience. required

    Licenses and Certifications

    • RHIT/RHIA required

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to exercise independent judgment.
    • Business acumen and leadership skills.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to effectively interact with all levels of management, internal departments and external agencies.
    • Working knowledge of HIM workflows and various computer software applications.
    • Ability to interpret and implement regulatory standards.


    This position has a hiring range of $80,995 - $152,027
