Primary Duties: 

  • Assists in the selection, training, orienting, competency assessment, and assignment of department staff. May assist with development of standards of performance. May initiate or recommend personnel counseling and actions. Acts as a backup resource for administrative positions in the practice when staffing issues arise. Serves as a super user for EMR (Electronic Medical Record) and Patient Registration tools; trains staff and upholds best practice workflows for clinical documentation, thoroughness, safety, and efficiency. Prepares associate work schedules and arranges for adequate staffing coverage to maintain optimum patient service. Ensures proper training for new procedures, equipment, emergency preparedness and policies/protocols. 

  • Serves as a liaison between patients and staff. Resolves conflicts/ concerns to attain maximum patient satisfaction and care experience. Mentors staff in developing customer service skills. Encourages patient safety event reporting, a systematic approach to resolving issues, discussion of safety events/ performance improvement activities, and enforcing a just culture. Functions routinely as a safety coach for the department.  

  • Implements, monitors, and reinforces policies and procedures. Recommends new/ modified policies and procedures to reduce costs/ improve staff performance. Works with leadership to modify and streamline workflows to create an efficient site. Maintains current knowledge of technical/ business development and communicates relevant information to the team. Supports organizational initiatives related to technology, clinical programs and improving the patient experience; seeks opportunities for improvement in all administrative processes and services. Communicates new policies, procedures, and workflows to staff and provides training as needed. Mentors staff through changes and helps team build resilience.  

  • Oversees front desk operations. Ensures that patients are greeted and registered promptly and courteously; eligibility is verified, payments are received from all patients; and proper identification is obtained. Reviews encounter forms daily. Performs user audits and functions related to data into the EMR. Performs audits to ensure data is communicated to the billing company. Analyzes supply usage, maintains knowledge of what supplies are required and oversees ordering and maintenance of supplies. 

  • Participates in ongoing professional development opportunities. Encourages staff to attend or review recorded training. Mentors staff in career development opportunities, including creation of a Development Plan. Assists with patient intake and optimal patient flow; manages patient volumes during hours of operation. Performs the duties of a Medical Assistant and completes documentation as required. Reviews and verifies daily receipts, end of shift reconciliation, conducts audits of services rendered to account for all cash collected. Ensures cash security and balancing are properly maintained and completed. Makes semi-weekly deposits or serves as point of contact for couriers. 

 

 

Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma or GED. 

  • 3-4 years progressively more responsible job-related experience in patient care setting. 

  • 1-2 years' experience as a medical assistant at MedStar Health. 

  • CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) by the American Association of Medical Assistants or RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) by the American Medical Technologists.  

  • Basic Life Support (BLS). 

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
