MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's Emergency Department is staffed and equipped to care for 36,000 patients a year ranging from newborn to end of life. The MGUH ED provides high quality care to a wide variety of patients, including adult and pediatric patients from the MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute and the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. Additionally, MedStar Georgetown is accredited by the Joint Commission as a Comprehensive Stroke Center and receives acute patients from all around the DC region. Schedule
- Three 12-hour night shifts per week
- Mid-shifts 1pm to 1:30am
Position Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a key member of the interdisciplinary team to deliver patient-centered acute nursing care to individuals with a variety of medical issues or who are preparing for or recovering from surgery. The LPN as a collaborative team member in partnership with and under the supervision of the registered nurse.
The LPN in the Emergency Department will care for the lower acuity patients in the ED Flex area was well as in the waiting room.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing. required
Experience
- Must be quantifiable (i.e. minimum of one (1) year experience within a Rehabilitation or acute setting).
- New graduates considered based on student clinical experiences
Licenses and Certifications
- LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse - State Licensure in the District of Columbia required
- CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
- Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of principles and skills needed for practical nursing to provide patient care and treatment.
- Knowledge of examinations, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.
- Knowledge of medications and their effect on patients.
- Ability to calculate dosages as needed.
- Skill in administering a variety of treatments and medication, as directed.
- Ability to take vital signs and maintain records Computer skills and aptitude, and prefer previous experience with EHR systems.
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe work environment.
- Good interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patient, medical staff, and the public.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
This position has a hiring range of $23.33 - $37.82
