MedStar Health is looking for a Lead Central Transport Assistant to join our team at MedStar Washington Hospital Center! 

 

The Lead Central Transport Assistant will serve as the lead resource to the Central Transport Assistants on a particular shift, to maximize efficiency, service, and customer satisfaction. This position also serves as an operator for the base station for the Central Patient Transport Department and performs other support services functions as needed to provide service excellence to patients, visitors, and hospital staff. This position will be represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

Primary Duties:  

 

  • Monitors the transport tracking system and communicates and assigns/reassigns cleaning and transportation duties and schedules to ensure smooth and efficient services as appropriate. 

  • May transport patients, his/her personal possessions, medical records, and attached clinical devices (IV's and oxygen) by wheelchair, stretcher, bed, etc. to and from various hospital locations, and to the hospital entrance, upon discharge following MedStar Washington Hospital Center and department guidelines. 

  • Participates and/or assists in the training/orientation and evaluation of Central Transport Assistants. Promotes a productive and positive work environment by encouraging Transport Assistants to meet/exceed department metrics. Provides them with constructive criticism and positive reinforcement. 

  • Retrieves clean linen, disposes of soiled linen, and stocks supplies on assigned unit. Empties and replaces glove boxes, refills oxygen tanks and disconnects/reconnects to patient, according to established guidelines. During the absence of management, ensures the highest level of customer satisfaction for patients and hospital associates by utilizing the AIDET principle. (Acknowledges-Introduces-Duration-Explanation-Thanks-Ensures). 

  • Inspects and cleans equipment (beds, wheelchairs, stretchers, monitors, etc.). for damaged, defective, and/or malfunctioning equipment, remove the item to the designated area and notify the appropriate department leadership to resolve. Cleans transportation equipment and equipment in perioperative areas by wiping surfaces with pre-mixed cleaning solutions. Keeps management team informed regarding activities associated with assigned responsibilities and communicates any delays in service to appropriate personnel. This also includes submitting an end-of-shift report to summarize what happened during their shift. 

 

 

 

Qualifications:  

 

  • High School Diploma or GED required. 

  • May require up to 1 year of technical or other specialized training. 

  • Two (2) years' experience in the central transport department. 

  • BLS (Basic Life Support). 

 



This position has a hiring range of $20.039 - $30.385
