General Summary of Position

MedStar Health is looking for a Lead Central Sterile Technician to join our team at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center!

As a Lead Central Sterile Technician, you will assist with the planning and management of the day-to-day operations and serve as a resource person for the Central Sterile Supply department. They will direct and check the work of others in the absence of management personnel.

Primary Duties: 
Assists with staffing, planning and control of the operational functions with all areas' requirements. Assumes responsibility for the department in the absences of management personnel. Assists and instructs in supervising specialized technical skills requirements and work performance in the department. 
Works with Assistant Director, Central Sterile Processing in developing quality monitors, in-service programs, and orientation programs. Identifies problem areas such as inefficiencies, equipment issues, staffing issues, and customer complaints and takes corrective action. Communicates with Director of Perioperative Services, OR Resource nurse and/or Operating Room Service Team Leaders to assess the current day surgery schedule's flow and proactively plan for the next day's schedule.  
Communicates with Central Sterile Supply technicians to ensure instruments are available as needed. Collaborates with Center Sterile Supply technicians and gives support to aid in a productive and smooth operation of the department. Relieve Central Sterile Supply Technician III of his/her duties in their absence.  
Cleans and decontaminates patient equipment, sterilizes instruments and supplies using several types of sterilizers. Loads sterilizers in the correct manner and sets controls to the specified time and temperature according to the manufacturer's guidelines. Completes appropriate documentation records prior to sterilization and reads and initials the sterilizer printout verifying that all parameters have been met.  
Accurately assembles all instrument procedure trays and case carts following content lists as a guide. Dispenses products requested by verbal, written or telephone requisitions for equipment and supplies. Provides constructive feedback to employees as needed. 14. Annually provides performance evaluation information to the Assistant Director of Central Sterile. 

Qualifications:  
High School Diploma or GED. 
5-7 years' experience in a lead technician or supervisory position. 
CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician). 
CIS (Certified Instrument Specialist). 
CHL (Certified Healthcare Leader) within 90 Days 


 

This position has a hiring range of $20.17 - $33.21
