General Summary of Position

Primary Duties: 

  • Conducts Imaging equipment quality assurance testing for fluoroscopy, radiograph, and ultrasound equipment in accordance with state and accreditation requirements. Performs and reviews room shielding evaluation, registration of x-ray machines  

  • Performs patient and room surveys especially in cardiovascular brachytherapy procedures, radioactive seed implant procedures (prostate and cervical cancer), I-131 therapy patients (thyroid cancer) before these patients are released per regulatory requirements. Occasionally participates in I-131 therapy patient room preparation, dose administration to the patients and decon process. Takes full responsibility to avoid any medical event.  

  • Performs sealed source inventories and leak tests in Radiation Oncology, Blood Laboratory and Gamma Knife, area survey during HDR source exchange in Radiation Oncology, efficiency test of LSC and Gamma Counter in Research. Participates occasionally in cleaning radioactive material spills, receives/delivers radioactive packages, and performs appropriate surveys per DOT regulations to make sure that the packages are free from contamination. Oversight of the rad waste program. 

  • Performs and reviews room shielding evaluation, registration of x-ray machines Provides general surveillance of radiation safety activities including personnel, facility, and environmental monitoring in Cath Lab. Evaluates personnel radiation exposure. Provides instructions to thyroid and cervical cancer patients. Conducts patient and area surveys during dose admin. Releases therapy patients from licensee's control per regulation.  

  • Assists the Radiation Safety Officer and RSC in the development of safety programs and in other aspects. Furnishes consultation services to personnel on aspects of radiation protection. Checks periodically to see that approved procedures are being used. Provides occasionally a radiation safety training to the new hires. Receives, distributes, and monitors radiation badges for all radiation workers in the hospital center. Maintains an internet database for adding, deleting, and updating dosimetry records. Updates radiation safety officer on overexposures 

 

Qualifications:  

  • Master's degree in Medical Physics, Health Physics. 

  • 3-4 years of progressively more responsible experience in handling radioactive and calibration of imaging equipment. 

This position has a hiring range of $139,276 - $263,744
