General Summary of Position

Medstar Health is looking for an EKG Technician to join our team at MedStar Harbor Hospital.

The EKG Technician performs electrocardiograph tracings for the diagnosis of cardiac conditions and other related examinations for patients.

Primary Duties: 

  • Adheres to departmental and MedStar Safety and Infection Control programs. Cleans, disinfects and maintains Cardiology equipment as per department protocol. Reports patients or associate injuries as per established protocol. Demonstrates compliance with Universal Precautions when appropriate. 

  • Completes all related clerical procedures. Ensures completeness of required patient data prior to billing and interpretation. Adequately completes all department and MedStar Health billing requirements in a timely manner. Directs reports and confirmed EKG's as per department protocol. Maintains statistics as required. Completes all related procedures prior to performance of test procedure. Assists with planning and scheduling all Cardiology tests promptly. Assists in maintaining internal and external Cardiology supply inventories. Clarifies testing request in ambiguous situations. Communicates information about specific test(s) to the patient and/or family explaining procedure prior to testing.  

  • Consistently performs technically adequate EKG tracings with appropriate patient information displayed. Obtains previous EKG tracings for comparison prior to physician review when applicable. Demonstrates accurate lead placement prior to performance of EKG. Enters all required patient information prior to performance of EKG. Prepares completed EKG tracings for physician review and confirmation. Assists with patient hook-up for other non-invasive cardiovascular testing procedures as directed.  

  • Demonstrates proficiency with MUSE EKG system. Transmits stored EKGs to the system via modem and disc as appropriate. Edits patient and test data and information. Retrieves requested reports/EKG's and handles as directed.  

  • Performs in orientation and in service education as appropriate to new staff, students, and other hospital departments. 

 

Qualifications:  

  • High School Diploma or GED. 

  • 3 months EKG experience. 

  • CPR certification. 


This position has a hiring range of $17.5 - $27.23
