General Summary of Position

MedStar Health is looking for an Education Coordinator Respiratory Care to join our team at Franklin Square Medical Center, Baltimore MD.

As an Education Coordinator Respiratory Care, you will provide educational support to respiratory therapy associates. Develops and implements respiratory therapy orientation sessions, organizes, and implements specialized staff training programs, and develops department continuing education program. Coordinates programs with clinical affiliates and organizes and monitors quality assurance and improvement programs. Collaborating with the respiratory leadership team, will develop and update department policies and procedures manuals, evaluate and recommend new equipment and techniques, and update and maintain department resource library.

Primary Duties: 

  • Develops, coordinates, and implements respiratory therapy orientation sessions. Schedules multi-week sessions, determines course content, and develops lesson plans. Provides didactic lectures on and tests knowledge of work area policies and procedures, work methods and care methodology.  
  • Schedules and provides clinical training in general patient care, arterial blood gas, and intensive care and evaluates orientees' competency. Orientees include newly hired and promoted respiratory care, intensive care nursing, and other staff practitioners, the general hospital community including other professionals, and in-and out-patients of the hospital.  
  • Organizes, develops, coordinates, and implements specialized staff training and department continuing education programs. Prepares lesson plans, provides didactic lectures, materials, and clinical instruction, evaluates competency, and has final determination of satisfactory program completion. Obtains and reviews educational materials. Transmits knowledge of respiratory therapy and new procedures through training courses. Schedules and provides respiratory care in-service training courses for department staff, other healthcare team members (including physicians and nurses), and the community at large.  
  • Coordinates programs with clinical affiliates including CUC, UDC, and PGCC. Participates as a member of department and hospital committees including quality assurance, computers, etc. Organizes, implements, and monitors quality assurance and improvement programs. Completes audits and reviews and collects data to maintain quality patient care.  
  • Reviews, develops, writes, revises, maintains, and updates department policies and procedures manuals, as necessary. Evaluates and recommends new equipment and techniques. Reviews, updates, and maintains department resource library. 


Qualifications:  

  • Associate degree or equivalent respiratory therapy training. 
  • 3-4 years of progressively more responsible job-related experience. 
  • Registration as a Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care. 
  • BLS (Basic Life Support). 
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support).
