MedStar Health is looking for a Cardiac Sonographer to join our team at MedStar Washington Hospital Center!
As a Cardiac Sonographer, you will perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations, including 2D echo, Doppler, stress, dobutamine, and other echocardiographic tests. Prepares preliminary test measurements and facilitates understanding of sonographic examinations.

Primary Duties:
Obtains pertinent clinical information from patients, medical charts, and/or physician. Communicates purpose and procedures related to the ultrasound test to the patient and comforts/reassures patient about the examination. Performs 2D echo, Doppler, stress, and other echocardiographic examinations to provide anatomic and physiologic data for physician's review. Uses a portable echocardiograph machine to perform studies, as requested.
Notifies physician immediately if patient is in distress or severe abnormal reading is obtained. Reviews studies with the interpreting physician. Aids/training in the Echocardiograph Laboratory to cardiology fellows as relates to ultrasound examinations. Maintains appropriate training documentation/ material.
Inspects/maintains equipment and supplies used for cleanliness, proper functioning, and par levels, notifies appropriate personnel regarding problems or malfunctions. Assists in scheduling patient for examination(s) to be performed, set-up of special procedure rooms, i.e., transesophageal echocardiograph (TEE) examination.
Performs various related functions, such as logging and filing of echo studies, tabulating statistics, paging staff, and assisting physician with obtaining patients' reports, etc. Participates in the development of effective Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement (QA/QI) activities to improve quality of care. Attending echo conferences, continuing education courses, and/or in-services.
Qualifications:
Associate or higher-level degree, or equivalent training such as coursework in anatomy and physiology.
1 to 3 years' experience in ultrasound procedures equipment, CW Doppler, and related anatomy and pathological conditions of the heart, valves, pericardium, and blood vessels.
BLS (Basic Life Support).
Registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or by the American Registry of Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographers (ARDCS) or by the Cardiology Credentialing Institute/National Board of Cardiovascular Technologists (CCI/NBCVT) or become eligible to take the registry within one year of hire and pass the registry within two years of hire.
This position has a hiring range of $35.012 - $59.012
