Job Summary: 

MedStar Health is looking for a Community Health Educator to join our team at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital!  

As a Community Health Educator, you will plan, develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate evidenced-based community health activities in partnership with Baltimore Region communities, under the guidance of the RN Program Manager. Collaborates and interacts with internal departments and external community partners to strengthen health outcomes for Baltimore Region communities.

Primary Duties: 

  • Facilitates/teaches/staffs various community- based health education programs, health and wellness events and support groups. Works in collaboration with the Care Transformation RN Program Manager to promote health and wellness and prevent illness and disease through education.  

  • Supports community health needs assessment and community benefit processes. Develops and coordinates linkages with other health care organizations, community agencies, support groups, and providers to meet health care needs of the community. 

  • Supports advocacy and the implementation and evaluation of educational and prevention programs, activities, and events in alignment with Care Transformation goals and the Community Health Needs Assessment implantation plan. Cultivates strategic relationships to promote education/awareness and prevention activities. 

  • Creates and manages summary reports of community health programs. Ensures that records are kept in compliance with regulatory agencies' requirements. Participates in meetings, and on committees, local coalitions, steering groups, and advocacy groups. Represents the department, hospitals, and medical system in community outreach efforts. 

 

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's degree in public health or related field. 

  • 1-2 years' experience in adult education/training and established relationships with community organizations, civic leaders, faith-based organizations, and political leaders. 

  • Agreement to obtain designated certifications (lactation, BLS, CPR) based on department needs.  

  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) preferred.
