General Summary of Position
Responsible for the assessment, direction and supervision of participants in the Cardiopulmonary Rehab Program. Also participates in process improvement and ensures ongoing compliance with requirements of the program through AACVPR.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs tasks for patients' success in Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab Programs within scope of practice.
  • Evaluates medical history and current physical status of participants and assesses their baseline functional capacity and personal health factors.
  • Obtains necessary materials from MD office for participant enrollment and performs new patient orientations.
  • Assists with navigation of resources for participants, developing plans of care for participants.
  • Independently implements plan of care utilizing principles of exercise physiology. Instructs participants in proper techniques and use of equipment. Understands contraindications to postpone and terminate exercise. Monitors exercise session, assessing participants for inappropriate responses to exercise.
  • Independently adjusts participant's treatment plan to properly progress participants and safely obtain established program and participant's goals, identifying potential problems and notifies MD before critical problems appear.
  • Provides teaching and instruction to patients, family members and staff. Independently identifies patient education needs and provides education/ resources to participant regarding disease process, prevention, and discharge planning and health maintenance. Instructs participants in proper techniques and use of equipment.
  • Arranges for classes and participant counseling with multiple disciplines including but not limited to in-services to hospital staff and community related to cardiac and pulmonary disease and prevention.
  • Develops new ideas and suggestions for program improvements including input into equipment, budget needs and continuous quality improvement for the program.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree Nursing required or
    • Associate's degree Respiratory Therapy required

    Experience

    • 1-2 years In a Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation program within the last 5 years of work history preferred

    Licenses and Certifications

    • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Upon Hire required or
    • RRT - Registered Respiratory Therapist Upon Hire required and
    • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required and
    • Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
    • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification within 1 Year required
    • Specialty certification in pulmonary or cardiac rehabilitation within 1 Year required


    This position has a hiring range of $72,758 - $130,041
