Description

Responsible for assessing nursing care delivery systems, developing and revising nursing care methods. Plans and conducts educational programs necessary to improve technical and professional competence among nursing staff. Collaborates with assigned medical staff regarding the status of the patients and recommends alternatives. Assist with implementation and evaluation of the recommendations. Perform professional and technical nursing functions for selected service line populations. Function independently without direct supervision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Assesses nursing care delivery system on assigned service line patients. Evaluates level of patient care provided as well as technical and professional competence of unit nursing personnel.

* Develops, revises and implements appropriate methods and processes for delivery of quality patient care at the service line level. Evaluates new methods and prepares necessary reports for supervisor's review.

* Performs professional and technical nursing functions for selected patients requiring specialized care through assessment, development and execution of patient care plans, documentation, and so forth. Collaborates with the physician and assists in data collection for the development of H&P and Discharge Summaries.

* Serves as professional resource for nursing personnel in order to resolve nursing care problems through review and distribution of current research, and collaborates with other healthcare team members in developing and implementing appropriate patient care plans.

* Makes recommendations to Service Line Management regarding solutions to problems affecting delivery of care as well as revisions or additions to service line goals, objectives, policies and procedures. Assist with developing plans for and overseeing implementation of approved recommendations.

* Serves on various departmental committees necessary for reviewing and revising delivery of care systems and procedures. Reviews and evaluates results of nursing practice provided to assigned patients in order to improve competence as practitioner, and to design methods to modify or eliminate barriers to effective nursing care.

* Plans, researches and conducts in service and continuing educational programs necessary to improve technical and professional competence of nursing staff. Researches and develops standards of practice for assigned service line.

* Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.

* Bachelor's degree in Nursing.

* Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.

* Two years of nursing experience in the assigned Service Line specialty.
