Title and Summary

Senior Counsel (Director) The appointed person will be a vital part of the Europe regional legal team. The team oversees the general legal and regulatory needs of the Europe region which covers 44 countries.
The appointed person will be the key legal business partner of the People & Capability Team (Mastercard's name for the HR team) providing employment law support to the P&C teams of Mastercard's entities in the UK and Ireland, and potentially in other European locations. The function reports into a Region Counsel. The appointed person will be expected to make a significant contribution to continued growth of Mastercard's business and its people in Europe. The position is based in London (UK).

Role Responsibilities
• Assist the P&C team on a broad range of employment law related matters for the UK and Ireland, and potentially for other European countries

•Support the P&C team to provide direction and delivery related to organizational design, talent acquisition, succession management, talent management and development, employee relations matters, resource planning, compensation and benefits, and performance management whilst applying your knowledge of local laws and regulations

• Support the P&C team to ensure alignment and implementation of Mastercard's HR strategies, policies and programmes, and create and deliver cost effective HR solutions for complex business issues
• Partner with our global Employment Law Group to ensure consistency in global approach while adhering to local laws.
• Follow up on legislative evolutions in the allocated European markets including assessing the potential impact for Mastercard and proposals for amending legal documents and existing practices
• Participate from a broad employment law perspective to projects in the M&A field

Selection Criteria

Qualifications/Essential Knowledge/Experience/Attributes
• Master in law degree;
• Relevant post-qualification experience in employment law in a reputable law firm and/or as in-house lawyer, preferably in the financial services, banking or technology sector; Experience in providing legal support to US organizations and experience in corporate law, IT law considered an asset.
• Fluent in English (both orally as in writing); any additional European languages will be considered an asset.
• Must be able to contribute and operate effectively within a diverse multicultural organization.
• The candidate should have a positive “can do it” attitude, be stress resistant and ready to go the extra mile.
• The candidate should be a team player who is both organizationally savvy and a strong communicator able to collaborate cross-functionally and across regions.
• Creative approach to problem-solving.
• Flexible and capable of working efficiently in a fast evolving environment;
• Enjoy working in a team and enjoy sharing knowledge, but able to work independently and take on responsibilities.
• Serves as a role model for the application of the Mastercard Way.
