Job Title
Director, Regulatory Affairs Advocacy

Mastercard is a technology company in the financial services industry. We operate the world's fastest payments processing network, connecting consumers, financial institutions, digital wallet providers, merchants, governments and businesses in more than 210 countries and territories. Mastercard's Global Regulatory team is responsible for liaising with key regulators and law enforcement officials for the purpose of supporting Mastercard's regulatory footprint and compliance with regulations around the world. This newly created position will engage with central banks, governments, non-governmental organizations, and private sector partners on key regulatory initiatives impacting the payments industry.

We are a team who partners across Mastercard to help shape and execute against our strategy, working cross-functionally across a global organization. We demonstrate decency and personal accountability to help lead the business forward through hands-on engagement, partnership and strategic value creation.

The ideal candidate must thrive in a fast-paced environment and with a diverse workload. The candidate must have extensive experience providing both tactical and strategic advice to both regulators and internal executive level business professionals.

Role
The role will be responsible for:

• Designing, developing, and executing proactive advocacy campaigns and engagement strategies with the aim of educating and influencing key regulators and policy-makers around the world on the regulation of crypto-assets
• Designing, developing, and executing proactive advocacy campaigns and engagement strategies with the aim of educating key decision makers on CBDC design choices (both wholesale and retail), positioning Mastercard thought-leadership and advocacy content on CBDCs, and creating opportunities to embed Mastercard's technical subject matter experts into the design, testing, piloting, and deployment of CBDC projects in key markets around the world
• Establishing, and cultivating collaborative relationships with a wide range of external stakeholders - including industry, civil society, and academic associations – to amplify and enhance Mastercard's position on priority crypto-asset, tokenized deposit, stablecoin and CBDC regulatory issues, including through the organization of joint events, the co-development of thought-leadership, and the drafting of third-party advocacy materials
• Identifying opportunities to deepen Mastercard's engagement with key regulators by proactively proposing education sessions, providing thoughtful commentary (including to consultation papers and proposed regulations), and actively pursuing opportunities for practical collaboration on stablecoin, tokenized deposit, and CBDC innovation
• Collaborating with Mastercard's external communication team, as well as members of our crypto-asset and CBDC product teams, to develop targeted advocacy materials on priority regulatory issues and identify appropriate channels for dissemination
• Leading the development of insightful thought-leadership on regulatory issues related to crypto-assets and CBDCs, articulating a concise and compelling Mastercard point of view designed to support regulator's understanding of and engagement with these issues
• Collaborating with other members of Mastercard's global regulatory team on the development of end-to-end advocacy strategies that drive alignment across Mastercard's wide range of products/services, connecting the dots between regional regulatory efforts and support for Mastercard's overall multi-rail strategy

About You
• Experience in financial services policy/regulatory advocacy roles with a demonstrated history of developing and executing proactive engagement strategies with the public sector – both directly and through a network of third parties
• A robust understanding of the payments industry, the players involved, and key regulatory issues across a range of major markets
• A demonstrated history of crafting and executing engagement strategies with financial regulators and regulatory standards setters
• A deep intellectual curiosity and appetite for continuous self-directed learning
• Experience working across cross functional teams and disciplines, preferably including experience working across a global team
• An appetite for deep engagement with regulators, central bankers, and policymakers
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to deliver presentations to large and/or senior audiences
• Highly confident and a problem solver able to tackle unfamiliar situations, setting clear objectives and working collaboratively with teammates towards a shared goal
