This role, along with other newly created positions, provides additional Registered Nurses at the bedside, giving you more quality time with your patients. The Kittredge Surgery Center, which opened in 2007, features spacious Operating Room suites that easily accommodate anesthesia, nursing, and support staff as well as large, sophisticated imaging and diagnostic equipment. Surgeries performed include orthopedic, general surgery, GI, gynecology, plastics, surgical oncology, thoracic, dental, urology and podiatry. The Registered Nurse directs and coordinates all nursing care for patients based on established clinical nursing practice standards and collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes. The Operating Room Registered Nurse performs the role of Circulating Nurse while functioning as a patient advocate for the anesthetized patient. The OR RN is responsible for providing safe and effective care to the surgical patient while meeting their physiologic and functional needs. This position is part of the Massachusetts Nurses Association Bargaining Unit at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. This position reports to the Nurse Manager/Director and operates within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures. - Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing required; BSN preferred - Licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Registered Nurse (RN) required - BLS certification required - ACLS certification required within 3 months of hire or transfer into position; participants in the Periop 101 program must obtain within 6 months of the start of the program. - PALS or ENPC required within 3 months of hire or transfer into position; participants in the Periop 101 program must obtain within 6 months of the start of the program. This requirement is waived for per-diem staff in the operating room. - Minimum of one-year Operating Room experience or completion of Periop 101 program required - Demonstrated excellent technical, interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communication skills required. - Additional unit-specific education and experience requirements are outlined in the Addendum for each unit.
