Mass General Brigham is looking for Registered Nurses to join our Internal Resource Pool (IRP). The IRP will allow RNs flexibility in scheduling short- or long-term assignments within our Mass General Brigham Hospitals at a premium pay rate. General summary/ overview statement:
This position is responsible for the daily operations of the Patient Care Services departments, working collaboratively with the Admitting Office and overall hospital functions on off-shifts, weekends, and holidays. Interacts with nursing/patient Care Services staff and staff of other departments to facilitate patient care. Provides administrative and clinical support to the nursing staff primarily on off-shifts, weekends, and holidays in the absence of the Clinical Nursing Leadership.
Skills: Required: Must be able to read Tele Strips, perform Cardiac Drips, and titrate meds. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills are necessary to deal effectively and courteously with a diverse group. Ability to quickly gain competency in various hospital software applications. Demonstrated leadership abilities; able to work under stressful situations; able to effectively work in a changing environment. Advanced clinical skills. Demonstrates strong decision-making skills.
Experience:
Required: 3 years of relevant healthcare experience, including progressive leadership responsibilities.

Preferred: Critical care nursing experience.

Triage Role:
o Acts as the central contact in coordinating critical and intermediate patient placement and collaborates with charge nurses to triage patients to the appropriate care unit
o Facilitates admission to the medical/surgical unit and provides an overview of capacity to nursing, physician, and administrative leadership.
o Facilitates the transport of critically ill patients to off-island medical centers
o Anticipates/proactively responds to capacity demands as necessary

Resource Role:
o Facilitates access across all units.
o Deploys clinical resources, coordinating staffing resources to respond to demand.
o Collaborates with the Emergency Department, Medical/Surgical Unit, and LDRP to expedite patient admissions.
o Coordinates patient sitters on evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Patient Care Management:
o Serves as a clinical resource in patient care management.
o Performs the role of code blue team nurse, a member of the Rapid Response Team, and responds to patient care emergencies.
o Provides clinical consultation to staff.
o Assists staff in managing unit activity.
o Collaborates with other departments to facilitate/support patient care utilizing current policies and procedures.
o Acts as a patient advocate, performing service recovery.
o Acts as a direct care provider in clinical situations, as warranted.
o Initiates huddles with staff at the beginning and end of the shift to improve inter-departmental communication.

Administration:
o Provide nursing administrative support on evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
o Serves as the onsite administrative resource.
o Adheres to and demonstrates behavioral standards in all interactions.
o Acts as a liaison for administration, patients, nursing staff, medical staff, and various other hospital departments, facilitating interdepartmental communication and adhering to hospital and department policies.
o Initiates the Emergency Preparedness Plan as necessary, coordinates evaluations and internal and external disaster operations, and reallocates personnel.
o Assists managers in staffing schedules and Kronos timekeeping.
o Reviews and revises Nursing/Patient Care Services policies and procedures as directed.
o Communicates with the CEO, Chief Nurse, Nursing directors, other department heads, and administrator on call as deemed necessary.
o Collaborates with external agencies, i.e., Police, Fire, and Medical Examiner, as necessary.

Professional Development:
o Assumes responsibility for own professional development.
o Assists with Skills Days.
o Assists in the completion of the Nursing Competencies and HealthStream.
o Participates in Committee membership.
