Position Summary Under general direction, protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities. Prevents illness and injury. Alleviates suffering through the diagnosis and treatment. Advocates for patients and their families. Ensures all actions taken in carrying out responsibilities support patient centered care. Position Responsibilities Unit Specific Position Responsibilities Completes initial Face-to-face assessment Efficiently documents restraint and seclusions Completes 15-minute safety checks Facilitates a nursing group Utilizes de-escalation and therapeutic communication Creates a positive and stigma free environment that maintains the dignity, privacy and respect of patients Coordinate and lead group activities as scheduled/needed Performs other assigned duties. Qualifications, Knowledge # Experience Required Qualifications (Including any licensure, certification, education): Licensed as a Registered Nurse and authorized by the State of Iowa to practice nursing or has active multistate license approved by the Nurse Licensure Compact. Achievement of Baccalaureate degree in nursing within 6 years of hire if hired after January 1, 2014. Basic Life Support#(BLS)#training, or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment. Mandatory Reporter training or within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment. Combative Patient Response Team training within 90 days of hire and must maintain throughout employment. Organizational Requirements: Maintain stroke education per regulatory requirements. Preferred Qualifications: Baccalaureate degree in nursing. Professional certification in nursing specialty. Required Knowledge, Skills # Experience: Proficient in communication skills. Ability to pursue and foster a sense of team and partnership across all disciplines. Ability to communicate effectively, in English, with diverse population groups. Ability to be self-directed, flexible, and able to adapt to change. Ability to communicate effectively in a professional and tactful manner with physicians, staff, patients and/or their representatives. Ability to read and understand chart documentation. Ability to demonstrate basic computer skills. Ability to read, write and understand the English language. Knowledge of basic arithmetic and its applications. Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. Active Listening skills, giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
